About
ARTS 2025
Over the last decade ARTS has become the leading venue in both the US and internationally for authentic and unique antique rugs and ethnographic textiles and an annual highlight for collectors and dealers alike. History: Back in the 1990s, many rug dealers exhibiting at a major tribal-art fair in San Francisco’s Fort Mason Center turned Motel Capri into their unofficial clubhouse. Riding that energy, one exhibitor proposed a relaxed, room-to-room showcase right at the motel. The first edition launched in 2011 and originally spanned two weekends, but a concise Friday-through-Sunday format soon proved ideal. Fifteen years on, the show now draws dealers from around the world to share expertise and let visitors experience exquisite rugs and textiles up close—while also welcoming select tribal-art specialists to broaden its ethnographic range.

Each fall, we welcome a curated group of antique rug and textile collectors from across the globe to San Francisco for the ARTS show. These experts bring museum-quality pieces, deep knowledge, and a passion for the cultures and traditions behind every thread.

Galerie Arabesque / Ulrike Montigel
Stuttgart, Germany
Dealing in antique rugs and textiles — as with antiques in general — requires passion. Galerie Arabesque has been active for 40 years, specializing in rug and textile fairs across England, Italy, and the U.S. They liken these events to “caravans from all over meeting at a watering hole,” and note that often more trading happens among dealers than with customers. From the start, Galerie Arabesque decided not to offer new rugs, focusing instead on old-fashioned value and service in the world of antique rugs. Website: galerie-arabesque.de
